The Last TwinkieA Poem by gombeggarThe yellow sponge cake copied so many times Would weather the years better then any other cake kind Beyond the atomics wars yet to come Last longer then salted meat or spiced rum Maybe even outlast the coming cockroach empire too When this world is much older and a little less blue
The last Twinkie sat free on a shelf Still pack wrapped in clear plastic and all by itself With no others for its company The last Twinkie alone unheard were it pleas The Cannuks saw it coming, me thinks The disappearance of all the Twinks
How did they know? How did they know? That the day would come When all Twinkies must go? Oh, rue the day Rue the day When all the Twinkies might do go away!
With all the trials it, the Twinkie has passed through All the times they were deep-fried, it’s true The many court cases of the Twinkie Defense All the other hardships through which they received no recompense Yet still they all carry on When all other foodstuff molds, decays and is gone
Something magical occurs when the pastry hits the hot oil Or so it is said; in and out of its package it can likely be boiled Shish kabobed, hung out on wires to dry There seems not a one of the Twinkies can die Still they are going, every last one…how can this be? Disappearing or hiding? Buried under a great vault, maybe?
Don’t count them amongst zingers or ding dongs Or even ho hos to be sure; they’ll all be gone Twinkies will remain That much is plain Somehow, someway Twinkies will exist until the end of days
Could Mr. Dewar have known How his Twinkies would just keep on going? Until the end of time Wrapped up or not, right down the line Until just one more was left To carry on to its best
Who’s to know about this Twinkie conundrum when I expect we’ll all be so long gone? I just don’t know It’s too early to tell And too long to know About the last Twinkie And if it should do all well
