Throw out your anchor

Throw out your anchor

A Poem by GoldenLights

You’re everything they taught me not to be growing up.

You’re the epitome of crooked smiles, liquid lust and broken cups.

You sing to scarecrows at night, yet your words still tremble.

You blindfold your dreams, yet wear a mask to dissemble.

You’ve walked on thin ice in search of a possibility

You’ve excavated hearts just to test their deficiency.

I’m the gold lining on a misinterpreted uncertainty.

I’m the external stutter of a robot with misplaced circuitry.

I conquer hollowed bottles and swallow pills of falling on deaf ears.

I see through eyes of false reality waiting for anxious substance to reappear.

I’ve befriended skeletons that beg for reburial in a grave of rust.

I’ve sewn the strings tighter, only to see the ventriloquist crushed.

Wait…

They may think you are the negative definition of a kid who just won’t make it.

They may put you on a pedestal just to have someone else break it.

Who are you to think you are not perfect?

Who are you to not strive to reach for the surface?

Let’s throw out the fear of judgement, for we are all flawed in every sense.

Let’s be imperfectly perfect, loved and pure without the pretense.

We are all but lights waiting to ignite, a beautiful accident waiting to happen.

We are all rough seas with sails out of sight. Just keep calm, for you are the captain.
