This isn't summer love

This isn't summer love

A Poem by GoldenLights

Here I am in a serene cafe with an ocean view.

Just another day drinking my morning coffee, I had no clue.

This was the beginning of the rest of my life,

And of course the first time I set my eyes on you.

At the first glance I felt held back, unable to move.

Your beauty had stricken me in a euphoric sort of groove.

As I bite my nails, I’m nervous and shy.

Thinking of my first words, I knew not just anything would fly.

This is where you might be expecting a description of the girl,

This is where I say “Just imagine the prettiest thing in the world”

Chatter from the back room explains that this was her first day.

This was clear; she seemed unsure, clumsy and tried to stay out of the way.

I stand up from my chair, confidence in hand.

As I take my first few steps toward you I feel like I’m sinking in sand.

I notice you knock over a bag of sugar, so I’m quick on the draw.

“Ma’am I think you dropped your nametag!” Wow, charm should be a rule of law.

She gazed straight in my eyes and gathered a wonderful smile.

We engaged in short conversation as you would in a grocery store aisle.

“Do you believe in love at first sight?” I asked with no intent to guile.

“Maybe you should try walking past me again.” She wittingly responded with style.
