VAIN THINGS

VAIN THINGS

A Poem by Onyeuche Godson
"

It's obvious that everyone after death will never go to the grave with all the vain things he has - called riches and wealth...

"

Vain things, vain things!

All these are vain things

Where men seek gold,

Yet they are told; it’s a load

Of Death who smiles in the cold

Just for all these vain things

Vain things, vain things!

Scientific innovation-things

Where they take over the world

But their intention on man is odd

These vain things are but one lord

The lord of death, yet on vain things

Vain things, vain things!

Men dig and sweat for vain things

Cold of the night is fast approaching with sweet pit

Those who chase vain things chase shadow in a kit

Ornaments and silver smile in graves like a decayed wheat

Oh! What a world of vain things

Vain things, vain things

Though meant to help life, yet vain things

But men chase these invisible man like treasure

A treasure of sweet-pain without measure

All at last head in trust to the grave " a permanent leisure

Why not crave for eternity, rather than vain things?
