What Is It With Authors Today?

What Is It With Authors Today?

A Poem by Spencer L.

If I ever have to read
One more goddamn line
Of horrible teenage poetry,
I’ll throw away my notebooks.

The next time I even suspect
Another self-righteous, arrogant author
Who smokes cheap cigarettes and drinks expensive wine,
I’ll break all my pens in half.

When someone compares what I write
To that of Laurel K. Hamilton
Or another bodice-ripping writer,
I’ll quietly laugh as I burn my unprinted manuscripts.

So if one more goddamn poem
About how much some cliché teenage girl hates her parents
And wants to die, crosses my path, one more time,
I’ll end up frothing at the mouth as all these writers run and hide.

Man, good luck navigating this website. You've probably been frothing at the mouth for a while if you've been reading here as well as posting.

I like the last lines of each stanza here. I'm a fan of continuity in poetry.
