I Am You

I Am You

A Story by Godkrusher

Blood is all I saw. In fact, blood is all I ever knew at that point. As I looked around, I stared at the crimson ink dripping down the walls. Every inch of this room was covered in blood. Even now I still feel the drops hitting me, like a cold rain. As I gaze up at the ceiling, I hold my breath, hands of all sizes were hung by razor wire. Male. Female. Even children. What kind of madman thinks of these atrocities? I took a step forward and heard the muted footfall. I look down and see the blood on the floor, covering it like a velvet blanket, as it made waves under me. There was so much blood... I take a few steps forward, looking, searching for a way out of this enclosed room. To my right, at the end of the room, I walk over as I reach the door. Twisting the knob it made a sharp creaking sound, the blood flowing towards the door like a river, I hold my breath as I enter the darkness.
The door closes behind me automatically. I shudder as the loud bang echoes in the room. But something was off. There was something wrong with this room. As my eyes adjusted to the dark, I try finding a light source. Grasping the walls I feel something... Something strangely familiar... Cold and clammy... I brush my fingers on the wall once again, stepping back, I realize the thing on the wall. But by God! It felt like skin! I take a few seconds to slow my breathing and summoning up every ounce of courage I keep feeling on the fleshy walls. I finally find a switch and embraced the horror. All of the walls were covered with human skin. The skin was expertly spliced, as though a maniacal surgeon had honed his craft here. As I observed the room, i notice that the skin was stitched together as if to make one giant wallpaper. I try not to gag. Pulling myself together I look for a way out. As I kept searching I notice something out of place. Walking towards it became clearer and clearer. All of the walls, the skin basically, were on a horizontal pattern, but yet this one was vertical. I find the doorknob and gaze at the rim of the handle, it was the figure of a woman's lips... Part of a sick joke perhaps? Turning the knob yet again I brace myself yet again. Something told me my nightmare wasn't over yet.
The rush of cold air smacked my face, slicing my skin like sharp knife, a giant refrigerator. My steps caused loud thuds as I walked. Yet again the door slams behind me with a crash, this time louder than the first. The room brightened. My eyes grew wide as I saw the piles of meat everywhere. Hanging on hooks or impaled on a sharp objects. It took me less than a second to realize what type of meat this was. I keep staring while my breath crystallizes. What kind of person built this madhouse? I wasn't willing to find out. Frantically I scan the room for my next exit. Finding the door behind a pile of meat, I desperately claw at it, freeing the door I wrench it open and run inside, tearing the skin of my hands.
Once inside I stumble and fall as I cry out in pain. My hands grew numb as the blood poured out. I take off my shirt, holding the shirt with my hands I press them tightly to cover the wounds. As I get up I look around. The room was dimly lit, but I could make out what was in this room. It looked like a lab with a computer at the end of the room and metal shelves everywhere. There were jars on the shelves. Finding a light switch, I turn it on, and see what the jars held captive. Organs. All of the organs were here. In these jars. Is walk around staring into each jar. Some of them had hearts, lungs, intestines, livers, all of the organs were here. Some male. Some female. As I got to the end of the room I noticed a jar with a fetus in it. Still born and spliced open. Nothing fazed me now. Opening the door with both hands I sigh and walk through.
This room was already lit up. No surprises here. Bones scattered the floor. Some of them making patterns, some thrown randomly. Hanging from the ceiling a few depicted the crossbones, the signature of pirates, obviously this killer has a sense of humor. Grabbing a femur, I notice how white the bones really are... Bleached Bones comes to mind. I toss it behind me and follow the path to the next door. What else could they do? As I enter I was met by a dark shadow. "Show yourself!" I yell. "Why have you brought me here?" The man in the shadows starts to laugh. An evil laugh that sent chills down my back. Hearing the footsteps walking towards me, I step back, throwing the shirt aside I ready my stance waiting to defend myself against this menace. He stops. Moves his body forward and said "But you brought yourself here my boy. It was your free will." He laughs again. His voice was so familiar.
"Show yourself!" I yell.
"Don't you recognize me?" He laughs. Stepping into the light my eyes grow wide as my breath gets ripped away from me. "My boy. I am you!"
