Our Pretend President

Our Pretend President

A Poem by Godfrey Green
"

A president who is all show and no substance

"

OUR PRETEND PRESIDENT

Our pretend president stands shouting;

child fantasies fall from his mouth;

promises not meant, not possible.

Our pretend president has all the money"

gold and silver from his Midas touch.

The world out there is an enigma

his small hands and large mouth cannot grasp.

He trips on a dictator, believes a madman.

Our pretend president sees only his Pinocchio nose,

smells no sewers, sees no blockades, hears no sirens.

His world is hodgepodge and the clamoring voices at his ear.

He remains untouched by all that passes.

See how he stumbles and dares gravity.
