Apocalypse21 (Intro)

What if the truth, was never what you thought it to be?

In a cold, dimly lit living room, SUMMER FIELDS, a thirty four year old notorious journalist, sits poised and professional.

In front of her sits DANIEL RAPIER, a seventeen year old soon to be high school graduate, with his head facing the floor, rocking back and forth.

 

SUMMMER

Do you know why we’re here?

 

Daniel raises his head slowly and as he makes eye contact with Summer, he opens his mouth.

 

DANIEL

Of course.

 

Summer taps her pen on her lip repeatedly for a few seconds then ceases.

 

SUMMER

I don’t think you really know. You’re just assuming the obvious answer because that’s what’s become status quo to you.

 

Daniel lets out a quick chuckle and then places his index finger on his forehead, tapping it.

 

DANIEL

I know more than you think.

 

As Daniel removes his finger from his forehead, Summer tosses a book bag in his direction.

 

SUMMER

Open it.

 

DANIEL

I don’t need to, I know it’s mine.

 

SUMMER

I’m surprised, no denial.

 

DANIEL

Like I said, I already know why you’re here.

 

SUMMER

If you knew, why’d you let me in your house?

 

DANIEL

I wanted to see how much you know.

 

SUMMER

Very well then, what I know is that this is your backpack containing thirteen, nearly loaded, firearms. I also know that I found this in your locker just two days after the shooting.

 

Daniel bursts out in laughter and claps slowly.

 

DANIEL

You’ve had my bag for two years, and you bring it up now, why?

 

SUMMER

Because I thought it was ANTHONY’s.

 

DANIEL

What made you realize it wasn’t?

SUMMER

Although you and Anthony are twins, there’s actually one small, nearly insignificant difference between you two.

 

DANIEL

Which is?

 

SUMMER

Say the word “teeth”.

 

DANIEL

Teeth.

 

SUMMER

And that’s the difference.

 

DANIEL

I don’t follow.

 

 SUMMER

You pronounce teeth properly with an “h” sound, but Anthony, like a lot of people, pronounces it with an “f” sound.

 

DANIEL

And that small detail made you realize the truth?

 

SUMMER

Yes, Anthony, it did.

 

Anthony (Daniel) bows his head and lets out a single tear.

 

ANTHONY

Anthony…I haven’t been called that since the shooting. It’s a weird feeling.

 

SUMMER

I bet. I just have one question.

 

ANTHONY

Which is?

SUMMER

How could you be so evil, so selfish?

 

Anthony releases a waterfall of tears.

 

SUMMER

Don’t cry now like you actually care. You betrayed your own brother, your own flesh and blood! Do you even have a soul?!

 

ANTHONY

SHUT UP!

 

A look of fear and shock appears on Summer’s face.

 

ANTHONY

Danny wanted this, not me! He watched me shoot fifty seven people and kill thirty one and all he had to say was “Let me take the fall.”! Now he’s dead! Do you really think I wanted this?!

 

SUMMER

I’m…I’m sorry.

Anthony pulls out one of the guns from his bag and unloads it on Summer, soaking the couch in blood.

 

ANTHONY

Apology accepted.

 

Anthony grabs another gun and turns to face the camera recording their interview.

 

                             ANTHONY

On Halloween 2013, I made a decision to end my life. I feared surviving the afterlife alone so I took the lives of my mother, father, and thirty one other people. I tried to end my life, but my brother intervened and he lost his instead. So today, October 31, 2015, two years later, I’m gonna finish what I started.

I have NEVER wrote a screenplay in my life till now. This was somethings my professor suggested I try to expand my mind a little.
