Daffodils - NOT !!A Poem by Robert GordonThis is a parody of W Wordsworth's "Daffodils" (sorry WW). It is based on a true story..I wander’d lonely as a slug ‘cross my laundry floor with feeling, surprised to spot above my mug, black mold upon my ceiling; Like seeping sweat from deadly pores was the impression of these toxic spores. Continuous as algal slime, advances its blooming assault; they stretch’d in never-ending grime ’cross the margins of the vault; Ten thousand saw I at a ‘glance’ (USA); So gross, I nearly wet my pants… Such a musty, stachybotrys
mess! Oft tempting one to flee; Could only make poets quite depressed, in such putrefying company: I cringed - and cringed - at the very thought of what my laziness had finally brought: For oft, when on my couch I lie as a potato in a zombie mood, they flash upon that inward eye in the horror of my solitude; and then my guilty heart doth scold- “Get up you sloth 'n clean off that mold!” © 2011 Robert Gordon |
