I only met her once

I only met her once

A Poem by Glennise Ayuk
"

I think love at first sight is similar to all others. To a huge degree, it blossoms because of the "decision to test/support the feeling" rather than the strength of the feeling itself.

"

I only met her once

That sizzzling smile she flashed

felt warm on the skin of my cheeks

two crimson balls separated

by my punched out, smaller nose.

It made my entire being come awake

Why, is something I cannot explain

But neither can I forget

She whispered ‘’hello’’, the phonation

 a celestial chorus

I should have encountered this angel before,

Somewhere in my dreams

I tried to flash my brightest smile

But a grin only could come.

Standing there, awe struck by the two blue

pools of tenderness that she used to look at me.

I recall every detail of her scent

Red roses, freshly picked

fragranced with something that seemed

to alter a man’s senses

something like lavender.

Simultaneously delicate and strong,

weaving power, and then submission

My hands did touch hers once

early man’s rock against rock,

igniting sensations of fire

sparks of desire.

the elysium of that moment now engraved on my heart

like hot platinium on skin, burnt in and scarred.

She told me her name, but I will not say

I murmur it in my sleep, like a lovesong

 a prayer, in veneration

I treasure it within my ventricles,

like all the things we left unspoken

when I met her that once.

Author's Note

Glennise Ayuk
Ever met someone you wished you should have tried to know? Because now there's almost zero probability you would ever meet them again?
I would appreciate reviews about whether this poem is "relatable" to that feeling.

I felt like this several times in college actually. Looking back, you run through several what-if scenarios in your head of how things could've been. Yet, some of those people may not have been good for you because look at the amazing person you are now. I think for what its worth we should all learn to go after the person we want. Nothing beats a failure but a try. This poem really resonated with me and I appreciate that. Please keep writing. :)
