Going Down

Going Down

A Poem by Glenn

Falling,
Falling,
Down into the deep.
Sinking,
Sinking,
Sinking to sleep
Trying,
Trying,
Trying to not weep,
But it happens anyways.

Faster,
Faster,
Faster I go.
Feeling the darkness creep.
It is not a gradual fall.
The descent is quite steep,
and the light is but a dim glow.

"Help,
Help,
Help"
I think.
Calling out to anyone.
Quicker and quicker over the brink,
losing sight of the sun.
Out of reach of hope.

Further,
Further,
And further down
Over the edge I went.
Colors fade, and sounds drown,
And no help was sent,
As I fall further into the abyss
From which I can't escape.

Darker,
Darker,
And darker still,
The light is all but gone.
Colder and colder becomes the chill.
The abyss has almost won.
Help will never come.

As I reach the bottom, the chill has left.
All my thoughts have been bereft.
I see the light once more...
But it seems different from before,
and it beckons me over to its side.
