A Tease From The Start

A Tease From The Start

A Poem by Glenn McCrary

On a late night back in February
I went to the club
And from the moment I saw you
I thought I was in love
We danced all night
And you gave me an erection
Which was anything but
A display of affection
And afterwards she expressed
No further interest in me
I guess I was too wrapped up
And I was too blind to see
That in reality a guy like me
Could never ever get with a girl like her
What was I thinking?
That was totally absurd
I guess to her
That I was just another guy
Falling hopelessly to his knees in shame
And begging for mercy in her eyes
Why did I have to be so stupid?
Why couldn't I see it before?
That she was just another tease
And nothing more
She used me for my money
And all of the above
But I guess that's what happens
When you think you have found love
It's a profoundly annoying thing
That I hate being a victim of
And honestly I am about ready to break free
Because I've had enough
Don't get my hopes up
If you are not going to finish the deed
For it's nothing but a waste of my time
And it's something I don't need
I can't believe it
And I don't want to believe it
Who would ever have thought
That a woman could be this cruel
To play me for a sucker
Like I am a damn fool
But with relative ease
She played the part
But I guess she was just another tease
From the very start
