Fantasy Town

Fantasy Town

A Poem by Glenn McCrary

Once upon a time there was a boy
A boy who had a very vivid imagination
And every time a thought would cross his mind
He would get a tickling sensation
He is so fed up with the realities of life
So he crawls into his dream clouds
And tries to get away
He is welcomed by two ginger bread men
Accompanied by candy cane sticks
The ginger bread men hoped to become lifelong friends
And hopefully teach the boy some new tricks
One ginger bread man said his name was John
And the other said his name was Nick
So the boy climbed into the chocolate boat
And sailed across the river of root beer float
The boy looked around from left to right
And couldn't believe what was in his sight
Huge doughnuts with sprinkles
And ice cream galore
Plus jelly beans started raining
From above the milkshake ocean shore
As they crossed under candy bar bridge
The boy saw a strawberry pie house
Which looked delicious
And he assumed all treats were on the house
He thanks the ginger bread men
For the wonderful trip
And they bid him farewell
And told him to watch his step
For the pavement of the house
Was made of ice
Which wasn't so nice
But he was willing to sacrifice his life
To meet whoever lived on the inside
He rang the strawberry doorbell
And awaited a response
The door opens
And out from behind
Comes a girl
Who looks ever so kind
The boy's mouth dropped open
Because the girl was so drop dead gorgeous
And her house was enormous
The girl had bright pink hair
Made of cotton candy
And her eyes were a brilliant shade of red
Her clothes were made of frosting
And her sandals were shaped like sleds
The girl told him that her name was Sugar
He told her his name was Bob
And how in reality
His life was just a big glob
She said that
He won't have to worry about that here
For the people here are so sweet and nice
And they live happily without a care
You will never ever find another place like this
That is more fun than that house of which you live in
But you have to remember
It's all in your imagination
Of which you discovered
That little tickling sensation
Bob said
wow that is a pretty interesting logic
I never would have guessed that I would make it this far
She invited in her house
For a hot cup of the tea
Of which tasted ever so sweet
So they shared a cherry pie
To satisfy
His and her delight
He gave her a hug
Of which she returned
She said thanks for stopping by
And that she enjoyed his company
He said anytime you are the best
And you sure beat all the rest
But I have to attend to my quest
Back home now
I guess I'll see you around
When I return to Fantasy Town
I hope to see you very soon
You should use your imagination more often
Don't leave it trapped inside a steel cage
Infested with rage
I would like to see more of you
Oh please don't let me down
For your voice has an ever so pleasant sound
So Bob waved goodbye and sailed off with the ginger bread men
And hoped that he would one day visit again
