Lost in a Song

Crystal hears a song that takes her back to the good ol' days.

“Why is there so much…?” Shaking her head, Crystal flipped to another tab on her computer, typing in the address to a website she needed to visit for her Academy homework. “Like come on, just give us a break…”

She continued working for a while before recognizing that she could play music. She had her headphones and her computer with her, after all. She switched to another tab, and pulled up her music platform.

“What to listen to…” She muttered, scrolling through the options. She finally landed on a playlist of relaxing music from a video game series she liked, with added campfire noises. “This’ll do,” she smiled.

After adding the music to the background, she was able to focus a lot better than before. She knocked out one, then two assignments, and even got some studying in for her final in alchemy tomorrow. 

“That’s much better,” she chuckled, closing her notebooks. Just then, a note caught her ear. One note, then two, then a tune, and just like that she was sucked into the song. She leaned back in her chair, smiling. She remembered this song from previous listens to this playlist, but she loved every time she heard it. It was iconic, in her mind.

She closed her eyes and stayed in her chair for a little longer, letting the music wash over her like a wave. All too soon, it ended, and she opened her eyes again. She sighed. “I miss those days, when I didn’t make things so hard for myself…” Losing herself in thought, she absentmindedly rewinded to the beginning of the song, wanting to feel the same feeling as before.

She remembered the days she had spent playing this game, and the fun she had had with her sister and parents. She remembered the conversations with her friends she had about this game, and the birthday party she had even had just a few months ago.

She sighed again. “I miss those days,” she repeated quietly.
