Toby book 2: Deer oh Deer

Flare goes out to hunt, what happens on this hunt?

Toby, Mori, Flare and Glacia had been walking for a few hours now. Flare looked up at the sky, the Crescent moon was in the center of the sky "Toby, it is midnight, we should all rest till morning" Suggested Flare. Toby stopped and looked around. He noticed two big oak trees "We can rest over there until morning" He replied and headed to the trees. Glacia slowly spun in a circle before plopping down and slowly closing her eyes. Mori climbed into the tree and lied on the thick branch. Toby rubbed his side on the tree to relieve an itch before settling down next to it. Flare yawned lied down beside Glacia. Soon they where all fast asleep.

By the next morning, Flare was already awake, he never slept for too long, since he has taken alpha role, and feels it his responsibility to look after his family. Glacia was lightly snoring, deep in her sleep. Flare let out a chuckle and looked at Toby, who was awake and watching the sunset. Flare then looked up at Mori in the high branch of the tree. "Are we going to wake them?" asked Toby Flare shook his head "I'm going to find food, you stay here and keep watch" Said Flare before trotting off. Toby looked over at Glacia and smirked. He slowly walked over to Glacia and got really close to her ear. "Rise and shine sleeping beauty!" He yelled. Glacia jumped to her feet, with a scream and her heart pounding. Toby rolled on the ground, on his back laughing. Mori opened her eyes and looked down at the two. "That was not funny Toby!" Growled Glacia, narrowing her eyes. Toby looked at her still on his back from laughing. Mori shook her head with a smile.

Meanwhile, Flare was looking for food. His nose was close to the ground, walking as he sniffed, searching for a scent. A scent came to him, but it wasn't food, it was another wolf! Flare lifted his head towards the scent "I smell you, come out!" He called. From behind a tree, a brown wolf with lighter and darker brown markings appeared. "H-hello..." the wolf said drooping his ears and lowering his tail. Flare could tell that this wolf wasn't a threat.
"What are you doing out here alone?" asked Flare
"I, uhm, I live out here alone" answered The wolf backing up some
Flare looked around. "What's your name?" he asked
"Julian" answered the wolf
Flare sighed, he believed all wolves should have some kind of pack.
"I have a pack waiting for me a little ways away, would you like to join us?" asked Flare Julian perked his ears and smiled with a nod.
"Come on then, I need to find food before we return to them.
Julian nodded and fallowed Flare quietly. "You aren't much of a talker are you, Julian?" asked Flare. "Well, not at first i'm just really shy" answered Julian. "Well i'm sure you will fit right in with us, right now we are traveling." said Flare "Where are you going?" asked Julian. "We have a member in our pack who isn't a wolf, he is from another species that we don't know of he wants to find his own family... I didn't want to come" said Flare "Why is that? and if you didn't why are you going?" asked Julian "I thought this would be a waste of time to look for a species we don't even know existed, but my pack wanted to fallow him, and i won't let something i don't want to do stop me from being with my family." answered Flare Julian looked at him once then kept walking. "Look!" Said Julian stopping in his tracks Flare lifted his head quickly, he saw a herd of deer "Perfect..." said Flare "Wait what! two wolves are no match for deer!" said Julian shocked Flare looked at the herd, trying to see in the middle, through the legs of the deer in the herd, he saw a fawn. "There is a fawn in the middle of the herd, we can wait for it to wonder away" said Flare "So we just wait?" asked Julian Flare nodded "Don't worry you can watch if you want" said Flare Julian looked at the ground "Hey look, Rabbit prints" said Julian Flare looked down at the ground, there was faint paw prints in the patch of dirt near Julian "How do you know those are rabbit prints?" asked Flare. "I have always been good at identifying paw and hoof prints" answered Julian. "Interesting..." said Flare looking back at the deer. fifteen minutes went by Julian was laying on his back watching clouds "Did it move yet?" he asked leaning his head back to see Flare "There it goes! away from the herd!" said Flare, quietly but excitedly "Wow you are one patient wolf" said Julian Flare nodded "Stay here while i get it" ordered Flare Julian nodded. Flare crouched low and slowly walked up to the deer carefully stepping over sticks, and being as quiet as possible. The fawn lifted it's head, Flare stopped immediately. The fawn walked a little bit towards Flare "Come on....keep coming...." whispered Flare. Julian watched from a distance, being a loner, he always caught rabbits and other small animals, never a fawn. The fawn moved a bit closer, Flare thought about attacking then, but decided it was out of reach still. The fawn went back to grazing. Flare inched up more, until he was in striking range, then lunged towards the fawn. The fawn lifted his head alerted and turned to run. Flare grabbed onto it's hind leg and pulled, the fawn kicked Flare's face with his spare leg. The herd was alerted and looked over at Flare. The mother of the fawn came charging at Flare, she was about an inch away before Julian leaped onto her biting her neck, Flare held the fawn down and bit down on it's neck. The mother kicked Julian's jaw. With a whimper Julian let go. "Let's go!" said Flare running off with the fawn in his mouth, the fawn was heavy so he couldn't go very fast. Julian ran beside him, as the fawn's mother fallowed Julian turned around to face the deer, he swiped his paw at her, and kept her from passing him, the deer called out to the fawn, but accepted that she lost the battle and returned to the herd. Julian caught up with Flare. The two arrived back at the two trees where Mori, Glacia, and Toby where waiting. "He's back!" Called Mori, from the tree branch. Toby and Glacia got up to greet him. "guys, we have a new recruit. This is Julian. Julian wagged his tail "Hi everyone" Glacia, Toby and Mori all came up to Julian. "Hi Julian! I'm Glacia! and this is Toby and Mori" Said Glacia pointing to Toby and Mori as she said their names. "Good to meet you all!" said Julian "Alright everyone, time to eat" said Flare. All five of them sat by the fawn and started to eat.
