Ranting to Be Heard

Ranting to Be Heard

A Poem by Yemaya Theresa

Because I am Brown.
Because I am a Wombmyn.
Because I am not Formally Educated.
Because I am Fat.
Because I am Disabled,
Because I am Poor.

What I say has No merit, No worth.
I talk too much.
I am too opinionated.
I am too Manic.
I am too Emotional.
I am Being a B***h.
I don't know what I am talking about so I should keep my mouth closed.

I speak but no one hears.
I raise my voice but no one listens.
I scream but no one cares.
I cry they walk away.

I Am Brown.
I Am Wombmyn.
I Educate Myself.
I Accept & Love my Body.
I Am Not my Defects.
I Am not my Bank Book.

My words do have Merit & Worth.
I Speak my Mind
I have the Right to my Opinions.
My Spirit is Wild.
My Emotions are my Strength.
I Am Strong.
I will Not be Quiet!
