Dreaming Of My NightmaresA Poem by TheGirlWithNoEyesThis is a free-form poem that I wrote about seeing my son dreaming, and being glad that he is the one who doesn't have to live with nightmares of his daddy, who did very bad things to mommy.
When I see
you sleep, your eyelids flicker,
Your dreams
keep you company,
I notice
your hair, as dark as night,
The whispering
breeze making it ripple,
I see your
eyes squint, eyelids tight,
I see your
tiny hands grabbing your sheets,
Are you
having nightmares of him?
I always
hope I’ll forget one day,
The nights of
pain and fright,
But do you ever
wonder why there’s only me?
Why big
brother has called so many people father?
Yet not one
of them is,
Your dreams
may comfort you,
But mine
torture me,
I hope
you’ll never have to know him,
But then
again,
It’s so hard
to accept that you’ll have your daddy back
