The Ones Who Silence

The Ones Who Silence

A Poem by TheGirlWithNoEyes
"

One little boy will find that lying is worse than it seems.

"

In a playground, behind the dorms,

Flickered shadows melt into forms,

Over there, hush many breaths,

See those girls, in shadows’ depths,

Who could they be, the students said,

Are they real or are they dead,

They carry thread, and needles too,

What business have they come to do,

A tiny voice rings through the crowd,

It’s not quiet, nor is it loud,

“I know those girls, they’ve come before,

If you tell lies, you’ll speak no more”,

The children laugh, but shift their eyes,

With no more words, they go inside,

A young boy, Byron, late in the day,

Has something wrong he’s going to say,

He says “Don’t tell,” to his best friend,

“Tomorrow Lydia’s life will end”,

Once inquired, his hand uncurls,

Inside it rests three little pearls,

“I’ll mix her pills she always takes,

And then she’ll die for her mistakes”,

The next day comes, and all is fine,

No reckless child out of line,

Except for one, who sneaks and finds,

Lydia’s little bag of twine,

Into her bag, he slips them in,

And steals her rightful medicine,

At 5 o’ clock, the pills she takes,

Swallows quick, then starts to shake,

Her friends rush over, but stop and stare,

As she fights to live, with little air,

Bryon observes, with shining eyes,

She holds her throat, then gasps and dies,

“He did it!” he yells, his eyes now fixed,

On his friend he let know of the sin,

Taken away, for crimes not done,

Bryon turns around, and then he runs,

Next day at school, no shouts were heard,

When students gathered in a herd,

To see the fool, his hands were tethered,

And his sneering lips now sewn together,

None shed a tear, or made a sound,

But then, a laugh; they turned around,

To see her smiling, a girl in red,

She held a needle, but no thread,

“Yesterday’s words were more than true,”

“If you tell lies, we’ll kill you too”

A dark but strangely whimsical tale, well constructed with good flow. Well done, Girl!
