Echoes

Echoes

A Poem by Girl Friday (Sarah W.)

we stood inside of possibility,

as mirrored beings gazing into familiar eyes,

            waiting for the right moment

to shake the sable sky with our offenseless hands,

to unlock the stars from their divine bonds

and it happened when we touched,

a simple skimming of flesh that brimmed

            electric     and we

became the ash of our ancestry,

the sublime culmination of what had been,

            colliding as wave upon cliff,

until our animation was abruptly defined

by the tender blooms of Jasmine

smiling wide beneath a Huntress Moon

            delicate and small,

as the beads of night-mist     sheltering

our shoulders and crowing our wilting hair

we knew the meaning of us

            in our connection to dust,

in the sloshing of water beneath our skin,

because we are more the same

than we are different     duplicate beings

            from the perspective

                                    of paradise

Your poem is lovely and these words truly took my breath away. A poem sighs were made for!

I'm so happy you enjoyed the ride :)
I think the thing I really enjoy about all your poetry is the intelligent romance and plural energy that seems to prevade throughout. They are never simple they always layer meanings. This is no exception.

We would do well do remember our sameness and connections. I know this was a romantic love poem but it seemed to speak upon love in general. We are all family. Spectacular write.

Thank you so much, K!
There was a lot of rich & powerful imagery within this write. It was like you painting a marvelous painting by using the layering of colors technique. Except for this case you were layering marvelous
poetic verses instead of paint. Great work Girl Friday. A riveting read. :)

Thank you so much, my friend!
This poem touched me, though I probably will be totally off on my take, but there is a certain magic here, a soft love is what I see. A tenderness that is felt when two people touch, find that touch lights the heavens, yet there is no dance, no shouting and cheering for this find, it feels expected. "I sat there waiting, knowing all along you'd come, for we are us and there is no other"

Sarah, the fun to me, in reading your work is finding the meaning, that tiny stream that runs underground, peeking above the surface every now and again to give us but the briefest glimpse, then disappearing. And once again I may be way off, but I can feel the love in this piece and it feels wonderful.

I'm glad you felt the way that you did, Jack, and you are never "way off"...thank you! :)
I notice that you enjoy the imagery of stars in your poetry. Imagery, I might add, that you do incredibly well. We are awash with beauty in this life. The connection we share- we are created from the elements and we will all return to dust but it is how we grasp the in between that makes us human. I found the term duplicate beings to be very perceptive.
