Echoes

Echoes

A Poem by Girl Friday (Sarah W.)

we stood inside of possibility,

as mirrored beings gazing into familiar eyes,

            waiting for the right moment

to shake the sable sky with our offenseless hands,

to unlock the stars from their divine bonds

and it happened when we touched,

a simple skimming of flesh that brimmed

            electric     and we

became the ash of our ancestry,

the sublime culmination of what had been,

            colliding as wave upon cliff,

until our animation was abruptly defined

by the tender blooms of Jasmine

smiling wide beneath a Huntress Moon

            delicate and small,

as the beads of night-mist     sheltering

our shoulders and crowing our wilting hair

we knew the meaning of us

            in our connection to dust,

in the sloshing of water beneath our skin,

because we are more the same

than we are different     duplicate beings

            from the perspective

                                    of paradise

I felt like someone might be standing in front of their mirror on an off day just talking to themself and fixing their hair trying to reassure themself ... of life or love

The last stanza is my favourite, 'because we are more the same, than we are different'.
Too true. Great write, Sarah.

Thank you so much for reading, Raven!
When two souls meld romantically, physically, totally they are bringing their worlds together. You said that so beatifully "we became the ash of our ancestry, the sublime culmination of what had been" I liked the celestial references in this write....and especially the feeling of two people meant to be....a kismet. Absolutely lovely poetry, Sarah. Lydi**

There is a wondrous flow to this one with each line or word creating a beat that carries the reader through the emotion and story. Very nice use of alliteration and metaphor.
