Poetry in Me

Poetry in Me

A Poem by Girl Friday (Sarah W.)

There is poetry within me --

my midnight visualizations echo rivers,

like the blood-letting of words     flowing

through corridors of lofty peaks,

pooling in a mirror loch that reflects

the cracking of a limitless sky.

There is poetry within me --

as I tip the kettle and pour my morning brew

into a fractured cup of inexhaustible imagery,

cream spinning like a pinwheel of simile,

as I look to the west and muse upon

a world driven by gears and unrealized art.

There is poetry within me --

drumming an ever constant wing-beat

of insatiable compulsion to simply     write,

to build lines, like the framework of cathedrals,

to create until my eyes sting and my hands ache:

these morphemes are my obsession realized,

these words my healing salve     applied liberally.

Thank you, Derek!
...as I tip the kettle and pour my morning brew
into a fractured cup of inexhaustible imagery...

I actually uttered a "wow" upon reading this line. Amazing metaphors flow from your pen, Sarah - yes, poetry within you... which you so generously share to be our healing salve...

Thank you so much, K...I take that as a huge compliment coming from you!
Yes, none of us can help ourselves. We must write. I was inspired to write this tiny gift poem for you to keep as your own:

Seaside Poem

Let them stare at me
writing poetry
by the boundless sea
where I’m truly free.

I don’t care at all
as I sit and scrawl
verses large and small
as waves rise and fall.

I love your gifts...thank you :)
Delightful the way you imaginatively describe the poetry in everything you see and do, like an inspiring energy that continually reinvigorates the very soul !

Rich and poetically enthusing, a terrific poem !

I know where you're coming from Friday !
The lucidity of your thoughts is impressive, Sarah. The metaphors you used to get your point across were well chosen and the images were vivid. I liked this a lot, Sarah. I hope you always have poetry in you....so we can read this sort of work! Lydi**

Thank you, Mark :)
"There is poerty within me --" in reference to you my sweet friend is an understatement, for to me you are poetry...inside and out. Each time I visit your words I am presented with a cornacopia of visions and thoughts overflowing like fresh picked fruit for my mind. Ripening to lucious beauty before my eyes and I assure you, I harvest each and everyone of them into my basket of knowledge and wonder. Loved this Sarah.

Thank you so much, Jack...I'm glad you liked this one.
The repetitive line is highly effective. It brings the read back to the starting point only to have that poetry described in the most delectable ways. My absolute favorite is the cream spinning like a pinwheel of simile. I also found a blood-letting of words to be refreshingly unique.
