My Moon

My Moon

A Poem by Girl Friday (Sarah W.)

Who has seen the moon rise

as a tissue paper seraph singing

ballads of brevity to a sky suffused

            with orphaned stars?

I have seen her there     swelling

above the Poplar and Ash

when night swings low to touch

            with delicate fingers

the softly trembling boughs.

She has known my deepest secrets

as crumpled paper tossed from bridges

when tears are little prayers sinking

as stones would do in deep water.

In moments of weakness     she has

watched me fall to my knees

in tear-stained supplication     and

as an ever silent saint she shines

all the brighter in times of torment.

What is the definition of beauty

if not an un-dimmable force

that as surely as our own flesh

            shrinks and thins with age

will ever remain a pale-blooming Lotus

            floating upon a charcoal lake?

Thank you so much, Jacob!
Gorgeous - this piece transcends beauty, as the moon transcends the earth.

a pale-blooming Lotus floating upon a charcoal lake...

This one image alone fills me with peace... This is poetry in its highest form, Sarah.

Your words mean a lot to me, Rita. I'm glad you liked this one!
It is not always the magnitude but the essence of beauty which permits our lives to bask and wonder in. That she hovers ever to keep secrets when spoken words are robbed of their power, we are grateful. The wording and imagery is great in this one Sarah.

Thank you so much, my dear :)
I have read many poems about the moon but I have never read a more beautiful description than this:

Who has seen the moon rise
as a tissue paper seraph singing
ballads of brevity to a sky suffused
with orphaned stars?

That my dear is poetry in its purest form.

I miss reading you Sarah -- this is an amazing write. The Moon has so many secrets, I am so fascinated by it. I love sitting at my window and just watching the Moon - it's great fun. LOL.

I loved the wording of this write and the images, too. It's amazing!!

You humble me!
I love your reference of the moon as the keeper of secrets, I think so many of us are enticed by her lure and awe inspiring constant beauty.

She has known my deepest secrets
as crumpled paper tossed from bridges
when tears are little prayers sinking
as stones would do in deep water

Love the symbolism in that stanza, you hit it out of the park again my friend.

Thank you so much, Frieda....I'm really glad you liked this one.
What is the definition of beauty...your poem right here. I am deeply affected by the moon, for it is a forever friend who I can confide in without fear of others knowing...who, through her light, I can send messages of love to someone far away and...who I can count on to find me when I am lost at night.

You have brought the light of this moon to us in shimmering stanzas and beauty my friend. Very nicely done Sarah.

Thank you so much, Jack!
love the third stanza...moon is a keeper. Your love for language is clear. Imagery always great, and last line was quite nice.

I was captured by your title, Sarah. As a Cancerian, my sign refers to me as a "moonmaiden", and I dearly love the reference!

Your poem is lovliest at closing...

"What is the definition of beauty
if not an un-dimmable force
that as surely as our own flesh
shrinks and thins with age
will ever remain a pale-blooming Lotus
floating upon a charcoal lake?"

It's wonderful to see you back, Sarah!

My best,
Kelly
