My Moon

My Moon

A Poem by Girl Friday (Sarah W.)

Who has seen the moon rise

as a tissue paper seraph singing

ballads of brevity to a sky suffused

            with orphaned stars?

I have seen her there     swelling

above the Poplar and Ash

when night swings low to touch

            with delicate fingers

the softly trembling boughs.

She has known my deepest secrets

as crumpled paper tossed from bridges

when tears are little prayers sinking

as stones would do in deep water.

In moments of weakness     she has

watched me fall to my knees

in tear-stained supplication     and

as an ever silent saint she shines

all the brighter in times of torment.

What is the definition of beauty

if not an un-dimmable force

that as surely as our own flesh

            shrinks and thins with age

will ever remain a pale-blooming Lotus

            floating upon a charcoal lake?

Thank you, my friend!
This one carries the night to places of dreams... well said and the tones when spoken last beyond its end.

I do mean every word... it's how I am.
This is so wonderful. The way you speak about the moon is so amazing. This is such a good write. A very well penned dedication to her.

Thank you so very much!
The images your words evoke are simply stunning, Sarah. I could see that moon reflecting on the lake....so serene! Oh, if the moon would tell all the secrets it knows, we would all be in trouble. :) There is comfort in seeing the moon rise high in the sky each night. Somehow it tells us everything will be okay. I liked this one a lot. lydi**

Thank you so very much, Lydi!
Soft and delicate wishes..of forevers ..
The moon will outlive us
She must..
What would do without her guiding grace..
And ever watchful ways ..

Beautiful thoughts ..... Jazz

I appreciate your words, Jazz :)
The immortal moon. She must witness so much human angst and dreams! I really like this free verse poem. It is not too wordy. The words you do use are well chosen to give the greatest impact. Lovely.

Wow! Your wording and imagery is as lovely as the moon itself, Sarah. The “ever silent saint” you describe has such a strong connection to all of us with its gravitational pull and mystical light beaming down faithfully each night. This poem is truly an honest confession of admiration and solace found in “times of torment” as deep secrets and tears are shed. The poet is left feeling safe, consumed in the presence of one’s mystery and power.

As the moon is cast upon waters tonight, I shall recall these words…..lovely job, dear friend.
