Remainders

Remainders

A Poem by Girl Friday (Sarah W.)

close your eyes     as the sealing of shutters

when night falls in slick sonnets about this place

cast aside your supplication     save it for another day

instead build with me a doorway that we may both enter:

there will be time for regret, when winter calls an end

            to this harvest

but it is summer still     our bodies know better

than our sanity, when seasons are winding away

breath is enough now     between us and around

our flesh like the bending of summer wheat

golden beneath a sun meant only for one thing:

            violent fluorescence

we are the remainders of a daydream     an equation

unrounded and infinite as the bridge of the sky

bowing above the bed that we have stolen     the life

            we have chosen to live

hush now, love, tomorrow is only a possibility

dawn may never break over this roof     tonight

            is all that we have

Your writing makes me want to lick your neck and gnaw on your collarbone during a full moon.

I've always been fond of you, dear.
when night falls in slick sonnets about this place
summer seems like wet heat in this poem when you state, "but it is summer still our bodies know better
than our sanity, when seasons are winding away ".
And the ending is the story of every dying poet and their words: "hush now, love, tomorrow is only a possibility
dawn may never break over this roof tonight
is all that we have"

Thank you for reading, Kleio. Glad you enjoyed it!
Another temporal poem from you. I like wrapping my mind around those concepts. I think there is a whispered beauty that threads throughout this piece. I also really liked the use of the seasons for your metaphor of bliss. I was especially enamored of this line:

but it is summer still our bodies know better
than our sanity, when seasons are winding away

There is great insight in those words.

Thank you so much, my friend!
This is a very special love poem, Sarah. I was enchanted with its imagery. The following stanza took my breath away:

we are the remainders of a daydream an equation
unrounded and infinite as the bridge of the sky
bowing above the bed that we have stolen ---- the life
--------- we have chosen to live

Exquisite poetry! The work of a true poet.

You humble me...seriously, I'm touched. Thank you!
This piece flows with a beauty and wisdom - my mind is flooded with quotations that affirm what your superb images show...

"Tomorrow is guaranteed to no one..." "We must live while these moments are still called today..."

Bottom line - we should never put off even one moment of sharing love. Love this, Sarah.

Thank you so very much, Mark!
The grand illusion that is tomorrow for it never comes and the season's can't change without it, but somehow they do...set in stone? I think not, for what waits for tomorrow, waits also for yesterdays, which disolve as well. The only thing we have is each other, beneath this almost full moon, embracing us with its light for it knows all too well, this may just be its last chance. Live now...love now.

Very nicely done Sarah. I always find imagery in your work that takes me far away from where I am when I read and sets me down in another time and place.

The spirituality in these lines is silky smooth. To think we are equations that go on infinitum.....that we are as wide as the sky and that we are able to choose the way we live is so comforting. Your careful choice of words and the spacing between them creates images I want to wander through for a long time. Carpe Diem! Lydi**

Thank you so much, Lydi. You are so very kind!
The physical lusting of summer oft times overshadows winter's sensibilities. Live for today, tomorrow you buy a new topcoat ;-) Love this one Friday...
