I love this. From the cat high on the fence, to aurora sweeping night back under the rug, to the easily envisioned ambiance of sitting on the porch with chipping paint, your word and phrase creations are unique and fun. :)
I stay here because I can --
because there is nothing to make me leave,
even if no one has asked me to unpack my bags

I picture a young pigeon toed blond haired girl sitting on the steps of a home's front porch, paisley and floral suitcase by her side, her bottom lip stuck out and a defiant air about her. Very fun to read and imagine. I may not even be close, but that is where it took me...down that whimsical pathway to where before and tomorrow meet.

These three lines sum up the poem beautifully Sarah. Such a simple premise, yet complex with many emotional layers. I love the imagery and metaphors in this piece, and the emotions you portray are relatable. We tend to stay in moments where life is less complicated, in our comfort zone, yet new adventures always await us. Do we ever fully unpack our bags or are we ready to embark on the next chapter of our life as it unfolds.
Well done my friend, another favorite and thought provoking piece that raises many questions.

Always a pleasure to read your work Sarah, and new "Friday work" makes me happy :)
The Last stanza is quite amazing , expressing your freedom and rights in words make not even society think of flocking your way, know your worth, i learned from this piece. Brilliant read.
I love the picture you painted here - truly wonderful imagery..and the message is wonderful too..yes we stay where we are comfortable. As always a delight to read your poetry. :) Julie
I think I like the last stanza the most:
'I stay here because I can --
because there is nothing to make me leave,
even if no one has asked me to unpack my bags'
It seems to be the most telling of what you're writing.
Perhaps it is good to feel as though things are okay; with wherever we are in life, at whatever present moment finds us. I love your writes.
