Be A Faithful Steward

Luke 16:10

He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.

According to Meriam-Webster dictionary, stewardship means "the conducting, supervising, or managing of something especially the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care." A steward is not an owner of anything but someone who is accountable to whatever the owner delegated to him or her.

If all Christians realize that whatever they have, they’re not the owner of them but stewards, how tremendous awakening would it be for the gospel-spreading and soul-winning ministry in the true church of Christ!

Personally, to be entrusted with this and that is a scary thing for me. Every time I receive something that I did not expect; something that I did not ask the LORD to have for my personal needs, I would always ask the LORD what is it for, then sure enough, a certain need will pop up: it could be from my family, friends, ministry of the church, or even from people I don’t know. By the grace of God, to have this kind of mindset, every time someone will come to me or a certain need of the ministry arises, as long as I have the resources, it’s not hard to let go: this is what I noticed, when it’s easy for you to open your hands for others, the smoother the blessings come to overflow.

The more I receive God’s abundant blessings, the more I pray to Him to make me a faithful steward. I know I’m not accountable to anybody but to Him alone, because it is Him who works in the heart of every fellow believer or even the non-believers to give me this and that. The amazing thing here is, because God knows that I fear to misuse His resources, when people give me something, they also specify what it is for: whether for the ministry or for my own needs.

To be a faithful steward is very important for all believers of Christ. I have witnessed how amazing the LORD moves in my own journey of stewardship. Everything started when I learned the importance of giving the tithes and offering. Back in my home church in Bukidnon, I was already taught to give my tithes and offering, but this lesson was more applied in my life when arrived in Bible Baptist Church, Katipunan. I started with 20.00 pesos tithes and offering: 10 pesos for my tithes, 5 pesos for the offering, and 5 pesos for mission offering. I received 150.00 pesos from my aunt a week for my 1-week allowance in college. I still need to take a portion of it for the detergent bar and to buy water from our neighbor to wash her clothes. I observed how the LORD blessed me little by little as I faithfully follow Him this certain command. Though there are times that I failed to give on time, but God is faithful to give the burden and conviction in my heart to do what I should do.

Stewardship is not only about money, but it is also using our time, effort, resources, talent, or whatever skill we have for His glory. God is requiring from us to spend time with Him everyday, help others when we see the need according to His enabling, and use our skills and talent no matter how limited it is.

I have seen my limitations in all things. Honestly, I’m afraid to use them because I don’t like to hear the negative comments of others. But God taught me to focus my eyes on Him, He taught me to do everything for His glory. I know how to sing, but my problem is hearing and timing; I know a little in writing but the challenge is my grammar and vocabulary. I know how to speak in public, but the problem is sometimes my thoughts become disoriented and messed up when I begin to shake. But I still praise GOD for all the limitations I have, for I take it as God’s way for me to keep my feet on the ground. He taught me to rely on the power of the Spirit, as what He taught in Zechariah 4:6, Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.” If I will make an impact to others, it’s not me, it’s God.

THE PRAYER

Dear God,

I praise You, LORD, for the life you give. Thank You for Your faithfulness in my life. I know that it is only by Your grace and mercy that I can keep myself going while I am still alive. Thank You for teaching me that this world is not my home, because of this knowledge, I am learning not to wallow myself in self-pity and bitterness when problems come my way, because I know that everything here on earth is nothing but temporal. Thank You, LORD JESUS that though others will not believe what I believe, but Your peace that surpasses all understanding reigns in my heart. Thank You for simplifying my thoughts. Forgive me LORD for the times that I did not give my best for the glory of Your name. Please dear JESUS continue to give me wisdom how to manage everything and everyone which You have entrusted in my care. Help me to be sensitive to the need of others and teach me how to respond to them according to Your leading. You alone can make me do all things through Your own strength and wisdom. Today is another journey with You in touching the lives of others. Please help me to fulfil all the plans You have for me today, in Jesus name I pray. Amen!
