No, I'm not ungrateful
No, I'm not hard to please
Yes, that's not what it is
Yes, you just don't get me

Please let me be honest with you
Let me express what's in my head
Let me share what's in my heart
Just let me show who I really am

You always say that you love me
You're showing it in your own way
You've done everything to please me
But you didn't bother to ask me

You didn't ask what I really want
You didn't listen to what I really like
You're giving me what you want
You're telling me what you like

Yes, it's all about you, not me
It's all about your preferences
It's about what pleases you
Everything you did is for yourself

Whatever you did is not for me
It's your choice not mine
You gave me what you love
It's not my desire, it's yours

No, you don't really love me
What you love is yourself
For if you really love me
You should care to know me

Yes, take time to know me more
Allow me to tell you who I really am
Let me share with you what I want
Learn, accept, and do what I love

Just love me as I am
For I love you as you are
Let's know each other better
So that we can be happy together

I like your style for what is - straightforward and yet artful. I'll be scouring through your poems for sure.

Now back to the poem. It pretty much falls within the territory of what we call "different love languages." There are instances where people feel loved a certain way, and the tendency is to project that preference on others -- this one you've put in your 6th stanza quite neatly. But then I also find the ability to express this kind of sentiment very wise. It's a form of being loving and assertive at the same time.

Is it correct for me to assume that while piling attention and affection of the givers choice on you, they never took the time to learn about "you"? They sound accusing? When nope you're not to blame? I love this, and can relate to this.

It's a matter of knowing the love language of someone you love in order for your efforts to be appreciated, and the person will really feel loved.
