The Servant's Hidden SecretA Story by Himaya KaYou did not say it, but I saw it.THE SERVANT'S HIDDEN SECRET Psalm 119:49-50 Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope. This is my comfort in my affliction; for thy word hath quickened me. One day, the master called for his servant's attention, "Hey! Come up here, for a while." The servant quickly put down the water hose, and ran where his master seated on the couch, reading some magazines. "What can I do for you, Sir?" he politely asked, catching his breath. The master dropped the magazine on the table, and stood up, then stared at him for seconds, which made the servant more nervous, because to be called by his master was an unusual thing for him. He was never been called for months. "I just realized that you've been serving me faithfully for years. I think, you have proven enough how dedicated and loyal you are to me, and because of that, I'm thinking of giving you my daughter to wife once she's ready. Would that be okay with you?" the master asked. The servant couldn't believe what he had just heard. With tears in his eyes, he dropped himself down at the feet of his master, and said, "Sir, are you serious? I mean... I would really love to if that's what you want, but how could you, I mean, how did you know...you know...I mean..." but the master just cut off his words of uncertainty. "Oh boy, I know it's surprising, I just know I could trust you." then, the master smiled and looked down on his eyes. The servant reluctantly answered, "Sir, I honestly love your daughter so much, but I did not let anyone know about it, for who am I to love her, I am just a servant, and I know, I don't have the right to feel this way with your precious daughter. It's a shame!" he then bowed his head with his face covered with his hands. The master put his hands to his servant's shoulders and said, "Rise up, I know how much you love my daughter. Yes, you did not say it, but I saw it. You've shown it the way you treated her. I've seen it with mine eyes. I've watched how you served her with such honor and respect. The way you've dealt with her immaturities; you've been so patient and kind with her, especially when she freaked out, you did not run away, and deserted her in her worse. You stayed, even if she let you feel unwanted. That's why today, I am giving you my word. She's yours, but you have to wait for the right time." the master assured him. "Thank you, Sir! It's my pleasure to have her to be my wife, but, what if, she doesn't like me," the servant replied, worriedly. "Well, I know my daughter. I know, in time, she'll learn to love you too; trust me, I'm his father; just wait for that perfect time to come," the master reassured him. Feeling relief with what he heard, he replied, " Sir, it's my honor and pleasure to wait for that perfect time to come." "Okay, I'm happy to hear that. But please don't let anyone know about it, not even my daughter." the master said. "Yes, I will keep it in mind, Sir." the servant replied. "Well, then, that's all for now, you may go back to work. By the way, I'll be leaving again tomorrow for a business trip. It may take several weeks, but I will surely come back before winter. So please take care of everything," the master said. "Thank you for your trust, Sir! I'll do my best to protect everything you have, Sir!" the servant promised. The next day, "Dad, when will you be coming back? I just can't understand why you have to leave again and again. It worries me a lot every time you leave." the sentimental daughter expressed. The father tightly embraced his daughter and whispered on her ear, "Don't worry, when I come back, I have a lot of surprises for you, if you promise to me that you'll behave." "What! I've been behaving all the time, Dad." she replied sarcastically. "Well, you know what I mean." blinking his eye and pointing his mouth to the servant, who's arranging the baggage at the back of the car. "Oh, come on, Dad, I didn't do anything to him." she protested. " Okay, if that's what you said, I won't argue with you anymore. Just take care of yourself, and see you soon!" he kissed her goodbye, and saluted his servant; went inside the car, then, gave his final farewell at the window. The car went. The daughter and the servant were left standing at the gate; both were silently following with their eyes the disappearing vehicle, until it totally vanished from their senses. Then the servant looked at her without a word. She looked on his eyes too, but with a message: Hey what are you waiting for, go and close the gate. He quickly closed the gate, and secretly followed her with his eyes as she quietly went inside the house. The servant stood at the door outside the house. He wasn't sure what's going to happen next. Though he was certain that it's not going to be easy, but he knew it's gonna be better than yesterday, because of his master's inspiring promise. Yes, this time, he's more willing to suffer because of that promising hope. But the question is, until when is the wait? Would he survive? Would his heart stay the same? Or would he get what he waits for? LET'S NOW REFLECT! According to an exposition from a commentary in Bible Study Tools, David's prayer in Psalm 119:49, the king did not ask for a new promise, but to have the old word to be fulfilled. He was grateful that he had received so good a word, he embraced it with all his heart, and entreated the Lord to deal with him according to His promise. He did not want to be remembered by God according to the service he performed for Him, but according to the word that He gave him. The following verse declared David's confidence and security in what God had already told him, when attacked with all sorts of afflictions. How about you, what is your story? We all have our own story to tell why we are, where we are. Are you in a state of waiting? What are you waiting for? Do you have any assurance that it will surely come? If yes, what is it? Is it reliable? Personally, I believe that the only way so that I could continue to stand firm on what I believe to be a promising truth about my future is to keep my faith on the unseen yet felt within through the word of God. Faith is not about waiting for the things to come, but trusting the Lord that no matter what happens, whether these things shall come or not, I will be okay, and I will be fine, because I'm not waiting for things, but for the Person who gave me the promise. Yes, I am waiting on God. I know he'll surely come to fulfill all His plans for my life. For He said in His word in 1 Thessalonians 5:24, "Faithfull is he that calleth you, who also will do it." I believe God meant what He said, and said what He meant. I have His word in my heart. I know I can trust Him, both now and forevermore! © 2020 Himaya Ka |
