Beware of Covetousness!
Genesis 2:16-17
And the LORD commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
As a loving Father, it pleases Him to put all His children into a fully furnished place. He made sure that everything is good and perfect for His children to live in. No good father who will love to see his children into a place where he knows that his children will just starve and live uncomfortably; he provides everything what his children needed. However, in everything, wherever we go, there should always be rules and restrictions given to us for us to follow, not to deprive us from pleasure, but to protect us from harm. If I am not mistaken, God’s intention for putting the three of the knowledge of good and evil in the middle of the garden is to give Adam and Eve the freedom to decide for their own destiny. He could have made man like robots, He could have controlled their wills but this is not the kind of relationship that He wants to have with His people. What He wants from man is a satisfied and contented heart fully trusting in His Lordship. Enjoying on what He has given, resting on His daily provision and having an obedient heart, this is what matters to God.  The moment we seek and want for more apart from God’s very own provision is covetousness. Getting what we want and what we desire in our own ways is like taking and eating the forbidden fruit in the middle of the garden and allowing ourselves to be separated from God. To do and to acquire things our way is feeding and satisfying  our flesh and is an act of withdrawing ourselves from a closer and healthy relationship with God the Father who created us and the Lord Jesus Christ who saved us from eternal condemnation. If we want to maintain a healthy relationship with God, we must choose to obey and stand with Him no matter how hard the circumstance it may be. We should submit ourselves to God and obey Him every step of the way and leave all the consequences to Him.
