The Little Prince (fan-fiction eighth planet)

The Little Prince (fan-fiction eighth planet)

A Story by Gina
"

So this is a school project of a chapter I had to write for a planet that I made up that would go along the story of the little prince.

"
Eighth planet
Asteroid 331
The next planet was inhabited by a man who wept.
"Hello," said the little prince timidly.
There was no answer. The little prince looked around; the planet was surrounded by collections of objects of gold and silver. This planet was by far the most captivating planet he had seen. His heart filled with amazement. He forgot that he was not alone and he stood up. The man was sitting on top of a hill composed of treasure with his face in his hands. Without even asking, the little prince knew he was sad. It was like he looked through a window and could see his feelings.
"What is the problem?" the little prince asked with empathy and curiously. This time, the man  turned and said, "I'm fine."
"What is the problem?" the little prince repeated because he knew that the man had lied and he never forgot a question.
"I feel like I'm waiting for something that isn't going to happen."
"And what is it exactly?"
"I'm waiting for happiness."
It was a difficult concept for the little prince because he couldn't stop thinking about all the treasures that surrounded them. He remembered the businessman who owned the stars and how he himself possessed a rose and two volcanoes. They occupied him, but he understood that sometimes we distance ourselves from the things we once loved.
"What made you stop being happy about your things?"
"I thought I had everything I wanted, but it turned out that I had nothing I wanted."
"And now you are looking for happiness?"
"Precisely."
The little prince thought about the man's desire for happiness and he wondered what happiness meant. Bright eyes and a smile from one ear to the other ear is not happiness, he thought. You can wear a mask without feeling happy at all.
"I'll try to talk less."
"Listen more."
"I'll try to judge less."
"Accept more."
"I'll try to watch less."
"It is the beginning of doing whatever it is you're looking for."
"I will be happy if I do these things?"
"No."
"So what is the reason for them?"
"Happiness is not instant. It will take time. Time lets everything out that calls for you to live. You will be happy then."
"I will be happy then," the man repeats but not to point out that he had understood, but as a reminder to himself.
The man wanted to ask the little prince to be his friend. He wanted someone to take care of, someone to take care of him. But in this moment the man realized that, before getting friends, he needs to learn to be his own friend. Before he could thank the little prince, the man heard the echo of the little prince's farewell,
"Goodbye..."
With the departure of the eighth planet the little prince murmured to himself:
"Adults are very strange."
