Proofless LoverA Poem by J. David
Today i saw a man get down on one knee,
and sung a confession of love for her. Bands materialized from midair, the guitar hummed a gentle tune and the drums reverberated off our skin. Choirs cried melodies and dozens of flowers surfaced from the earth as if this man set to convince the world that he was yours, feeling he had to prove what his love was worth. As if he had to buy it. And he thanked the crowd that cheered and clapped, smiling as he was certain that now the world knew. I walked home in the rain, shoulders heavy. I showered alone and ate the cold dinner you left me. Crawled into bed with you and thought of the man on his knees, and what he felt he had to prove. You roll to me and press your body to mine and whispered that you missed me. Soft words meant only for my ears, and i learnt that to you the opinions of the world don't matter. No justification to other people would change the value of the words I say I save my I love you's for your ears only.
