A Poem by J. David

Piece by piece

puzzling thoughts

slowly get pulled together.

Stitched at the seams

where the edges of reality and imagination

hold hands.

Both speak of you

Although, in whispers

In hope that my rationality

Doesn’t hear.

For it would say

To cast you away

As it knows what’s good for me

Imagination drifts.

Heartbeats playing hopscotch

Pulling up thoughts of you

Like children pulling

I love you’s

From flowers.

The only difference is

Only one of them

Hurts me.

Reality keeps me grounded

Stuck in this place

Legs of lead.

Although still,

My imagination lets me toy with ideas

Of touching clouds

And singing stars

And of a reality where

I am running to you

Instead of standing still.
