Bottled Love Notes

Bottled Love Notes

A Poem by J. David

They say if you smile when you are sad, eventually that smile will become genuine.
Like the warmth of the sun or the look of wonder in the fathers eyes when they look upon their newborn child for the first time.
But if that were true, then if I think of it enough is there a possibility I could be with you?

Dear rose, stray thoughts of you I see on the wind, like bottled letters on the ocean. Emotions dressed in ink, giving thought and meaning to paper that was hungry to be something more than alone inside of a bottle.
And although it may never be, the thought of finding you gives the bottle reason to drift oceans with the hope you one day might hold him. Breathe breath into its lungs pressing your lips to his and hear the bottle sing such sincerity and truth you can't help but feel as though you know it better than anyone else.
but no matter how hard you try, the letter inside remains just out of reach and the bottle can't bear to break lest the words trapped inside scare you.
That ink will bleed and that bottle will put itself back together, but will forever remain scarred for trying.

It's a dangerous game, dear rose. For the longer I hold on the more likely I am to suffocate you.
White knuckled and bleeding from thorns I never thought I'd meet.
But stray thoughts of you flutter across my eyes like butterflies inside my stomach I thought had died. And so I write these letters in ink I intend to send to sea and wonder if you and that green bottle I sent it in will ever meet.
