If I CouldA Poem by J. DavidIf I could find my feet, I would ask you to dance, hold you by the waist and let you take the lead. I would try my best at a little romance, dancing circles around one another like spinning leaves. If I could find the time I’d show you to the sunset, hold your hand and take you to the sea. I’d introduce you as the sweetest girl I’ve ever met, and the loveliest I’ve ever seen. If I could find the voice I’d sing you stories, of heroes and dragons, of pirates on the high seas. I’d tell you love stories to ease your worries, and together we could live the fantasy. If I could find the words I’d write for you, but most of the time my thoughts get muddled up. Because it seems that when I think of you, my brain and its thoughts get stuck. And If I could find the courage I’d ask you for a kiss, for your lips look soft and sweet. And mine have been guilty of staring at yours, hoping that one day they’ll meet. But I’m afraid that if I think on it too much, that I might just fall for you. But you’re sweet and smart and lovely and kind, and there’s nothing more beautiful than the truth. © 2017 J. David |
