Confessions of the Quiet Lover

Confessions of the Quiet Lover

A Poem by J. David

You're as lovely as the poems I wish I wrote for you,
but as the meaning may be true, the lyrics wouldn't be seen as genuine.
And I would hate for you to doubt me for words I wish I wrote,
or for you to see me for the words that aren't my own.

My heart waits for you at bus stops, but keeps skipping when you pull up in front of me.
I'm left motionless until the moment passes, and I realize I waited too long.
Yet it beats there in waiting, for courage that may never come,
laying in regret for not letting the words fall from my tongue.

It's as if I've been smoking you, the way you leave me breathless.
As if I've been sleep walking, the way I catch myself dreaming of you.
Search for the constellations in your eyes, drawing shapes from there stars,
for you are the song I sing when no one else is listening.
