Sleeping Stars

Sleeping Stars

A Poem by J. David

Can we stay in tonight?

For the stars

are asleep.

For even miracles

need to rest

from granting wishes

to those

who take

the time

to look up

from there feet

to wish

for something

different.

Can we stay in tonight?

For the bars

and clubs

are too loud

to think,

and the privacy

of roofs

means we won't

miss the chance

at catching sight

of light

dividing skies

and the chance

at something different.

Can we stay in tonight?

For the moon

is setting

and the stars

need to sleep.

And as sunlight

splits the sky

it dawns

on me,

as I wake

to mine own

loneliness

and find myself

wishing on stars

that are too

busy sleeping

to give me

something different.
