I look up
Through the foliage.
Taking in each branch.
An arm extending into worlds
Unreachable.
Untouchable.
But there.
Each individual leaf,
Having no life,
Yet one I long for.
Taking in the glory of the world.
Then silently floating downwards.
Onto a floor --
Cushioned by its own kind.
This is not lonely though.
Accompanied by friends,
At one with its mother,
Allowed to rest with its family.
To return to the cycle
To feed it's origin.
Going back to its roots.
It greets the floor
With as much grace
As it reaches the sky.
Gently sliding into the ground.
Focussing its power on survival.
To maintain its body.
To keep it sturdy.
The trunk -- solid and powerful.
Round.
Tall.
Omnipresent.
It looks warm,
And is pumping with life.
With natures woes, and
The landscapes bliss.
It not a wonder
That people have urges
To hug these individuals.
It is a home,
It is a food source.
It is a listener.
Can you hear its echoing voice
Booming through the forest?
It's ironic sound,
Loud but calming,
Replaces fear with trust.
An individual body,
Amongst a colony of workers.
Each beautiful
In her own right.
Neither wanton
Nor wanting.
Just there
To live, to be lived in,
To be live on and to be lived with.
A life raft in the ocean.
A saviour of our soles.
Hey giz, i've got to sa, this is one of my favourites by far. Even though you may not have meant to write it in the way i understood it, I loved the way you captured life. Its like just so pure and true, ever word of it.
It's amazing how one lifesource can play such an important part in our world, and yet so invincible.
It is a home,
It is a food source.
It is a listener.
Can you hear its echoing voice
Booming through the forest?
Its ironic sound,
Loud but calming,
Replaces fear with trust.
One of my favourite verses. How one object can perform so many tasks and how it can be made as a worldwide concern.
One of my favourite things to do is go for a walk in the countryside and look at nature. Trees are fantastic entities and so much taken for granted - but they live as well and have a wonderful natural beauty. Thanks for this beautiful poem.
I think this is your best poem yet. It was truthful and honest, yet, universal so that all can see what you want us to see. I think you're really getting the hang of this prose poetry! I really enjoyed this one, Gillzy. Well done!
Things I have realised:
My mother really is the best friend I'll ever have.
Too much alcohol causes some people to be something they aren't, and that includes myself.
That love, no matter wha.. more..
