The Flag of Another

The Flag of Another

A Poem by David McNeeley
"

How some people use the flaws and shortcomings of our consumerist culture to create a pedestal for their own Ideology and misguided philosophy.

"
I see the future
I see pain and suffering
I see a world full of fear and regret for what was lost
I see a world in flames and falling down

My friends, you each champion a cause
My friends, you say that this is the way or that
My friends, you are so filled with passion and desire
My friends, you feel so much, that you forget what is real

We were young once
And some regret what once was
We were strong once
But not all strength relies on muscle and bone

I see men rising up, with the flag of another
I see hope in their eyes, for what could be
I see mothers who, once, wouldn't flinch from the truth
I see daughters, loving their fathers and brothers, with no time for the one who could be their lover

We claim to be different
We claim strength of heart, soul, and mind
We claim hope all are own
We claim that to live, you must turn and kneel before a celestial throne

What have I said to change your mind
What is here in these words that would alter time
What do I have to say that means more than any other lie
What am I trying to convey

I 'll tell you what I mean!
I am sick of everyone selling something!
No Peace, No Love, No Freedom, without or within.
Tell me something real, show me what you really feel!
Without the shackles of Propriety and Shame!
Share with me your voice!
Your secret name!
I want to know you
I want you to feel the same
I have dreamed of times when men weep for love and loss
And I have dreamed of loves not yet lost
But I want to hear her names
And I want know they feel the same
Instead I hear the drums, I hear the vain
