The price of purity

The price of purity

A Poem by David McNeeley

So many give up what is precious
For earthly things and fleshly pleasures
They think not of what will come from immortality
Not one calculates in his soul what could be
The price of purity

Young man sees a girl
But he sees her not for the girl
What he does would hurt her deep
And when she knows, it won't make her sigh, but weep

Love is an amazing thing we share
But confusing the way many flaunt it without care
Crazier still some give it away free
While unmarried they don't want to pay the price of purity

Some sing that all they want is a faithful lover
But they've slept with so many others
And inside them sleeps a thousand could-be fathers
With song and music their fault they cover

They slit their souls open and let their feelings spill onto their fans
If only they could see it's only temporary and present tense
Oh! Brothers and sisters look on further than now
If that happened then all could see what soon could be now

The price of purity is one to be admired
A bill one should want to be acquired
To be paid when marriage between man and woman has transpired
And a love unspoiled
Will many a songist leave inspired
