My Girl, True ove

My Girl, True ove

A Poem by David McNeeley

We've waited so long for her to come
But just wait she'll be here in time
We've been waiting for what seems a million lifetimes
Just so that True Love could break the tedium

When I first glimpsed this pretty little girl
She embodied a bride with skin of white-gold pearl
Next, she was there in the midnight air
By my side, with her wind-blown, star-freckled, opal hair

Oh how she's avoided me these days
But still if I look hard I can see her in a thousand ways
Just wait your turn, is what she says
When you listen to the wind it pays

Now wait a second, Love can't speak you think
But wind carries in it even her slightest wink
All breath can be heard when your ear is tuned to the breeze
When your love is True then all your questions will cease

Soon time can mean nothing to all whose love is True
She'll give joy in color even on days of the most blue
Every last little thing to you will seem new
It's time all of you knew
My love, my girl, my one and only True
If that was, then all the world could say they've flew

My brother you've once been fooled
By one whom you thought her to be True
But by Love, her heart was not ruled
So now you've to her your dues
Paid, but wait soon to you again she'll call
Be careful, but not too much or again you'll fall
