Of Science And Love

Of Science And Love

A Poem by David McNeeley

Life is full of fire
And you're as cold as ice
Yet you wonder why no one thinks you're nice
It's a mystery, and you're sure as hell not taking any advice

You build your theories and compile evidence
But none of them are making any sense
You're not famous for being so dense
It's so strange that all the math won't mix

Oh what is this crazy thing that drives us to push what cannot be
And what is it that makes us do exactly what can't be done
If only you could find the chemical
Then you'd make them all just like you
You'd make em all normal...

My poor man you're overthinkin'
But just stop thinking
Take a run or just relax and hang out
With us for awhile then I think you'll see
What it is that we're all meant to be

Love dear friend is more than one of your silly computations
And when you find it in it's infinite complexity
It won't fit into your little division trees
It'll take you over completely

Alas all the science in all the universities won't make you sing
Even if the song itself has been analyzed and logistisized
Not one stream of perfect numbers will dance if you make it
For music comes not in the sequence but the beating heart

Oh Love is incredibly indefinite and it's so unreliable
That is why when two people share it, it is so powerful
You may think in hearing of all this, that Love is chaos
But wait till you hear her humming harmony and you'll know
That Love is the only thing in all the worlds
That will ever make any sense
