But Alas

But Alas

A Poem by David McNeeley

I will love you forever
Leave you never
All other ties sever
If think I about it ever

No one else will be
What you are to me
No one will know what your love sees
In frail hands such as these

But alas not tonight
For alas I'll not fight
And alas have the right
To alas take your hand tonight

It'll burn out my eyes
The fire of that fresh night's sky
And how love in your heart for me lies
As for it against other guys
I quietly vies

But alas not tonight
For alas I'll not fight
And alas have the right
To alas take your hand tonight

Tomorrow
All the sad sorrow
Burrow
Will deeply into my soul as my forehead doth furrow

And it's all cuz
I don't have the guts
A thousand maybe buts
Stare all around me at the pretty mutts
The stake of indecision from my heart juts
From all those maybe buts

But next year will change
So that I'm again in range
And finally I'll arrange
All perfectly so that my question I can uncage
Upon this loud life's quietly ironic stage
