Afraid You'd say No

Afraid You'd say No

A Poem by David McNeeley

You were so young
And I was so romantic
But you were so beautiful
And I was so afraid you'd say no

My friend we had something special
Or so I thought that one night
We talked so late
And we had so much we shared
But I was a coward afraid you'd say no

Mi Corazon you made me sad and overjoyed
At the loss of innocence that was close on your heels
And as we laughed together late into the moon's embrace
You in absence left me wanting more than I could see

All of you so elegantly laughed, danced and sang
So late into the night
And I held each of you in my heart for so long
The night She has brought me good fortune
And the moon has lightened my heart
Reminding me of you and all you could've been
Reminding me now that all I have to do is ask
Even if I'm still afraid you'd say no
