Love in a Dream

Love in a Dream

A Poem by David McNeeley

I've been having dreams about you
And that doesn't happen for everyone
Just the ones for so much I care
Just those I wanna call friend

You're a possibility in my life
And tho there are many
Yours might be true
You might be real
Might bring me into the light

I think ours could be a lasting sigh
But I need to wake from this pointless slumber
And I may stop dreaming
But then perhaps we won't exist
And in love with me forever you won't be

Oh, it's such a fickle thing our reality
Love comes and goes as the winds of summer breeze
And I want more of a winter chill
So very, very still

My friend yet you have even to be
But more than a friend you've been and gone to me
And in what i've always been, someday you might glimpse
All i'll ever be

Maybe we'll be Love in all her midnight glory
And maybe we won't ever know her soft kiss
But i hope you alone at least feel her ever passing breath
Even if i never taste her name on maiden lips
In all it's endless bliss again evermore
