The War Within

The War Within

A Poem by Gia Houseman

People..
That's the thing, it's not always or only the people.
It's not them who I battle with but I am however at war with myself.
Yet it is not me, it is this other person... this other, thing.
This thing that is inside me, that,
That blinds me to the beauty of day,
That deafens me to the sounds of happiness,
That mutes me from calling, screaming for help,
That locks me up and ties me down when I try to be rid of it.
But I should 'Just be happy' right?

This was a fun read.
Maybe there's a demon in you.
I get bored easily, so I play games in my head. While walking, I enjoy counting things. Sometimes i'll breath in sync with my counts or bob my head. At the same time, in my head, I will be having imaginary conversations with people I see, about things that I assume they would be interested in. While sitting, I prefer to count the spaces between things, because simply moving my head can help me to change the number and I refer even numbers, because I have two eyes.
I have more games. I play them because I am bored. The world tends to be repetitive. Sure, we can remind ourselves that babies are cute and cool breezes on hot days are nice, but most of the time we prefer to move along toward the a/c.
