A pledge

A pledge

A Poem by Gertrude Osei Tutu

Shall I compare thou to Narcissus?
Shall I compare thou to Adonis?
No. You are the likes of gloriosa superba
A beauty, regal to behold, a majestica
Your bright colours, apallingly hypnotic
I was absolutely besotted, beguiled
As I drew near to lap of your honey
But you, full of guile, availed bile
My love, was it I that made you toxic?
If so, I will bear this exquisite agony
And ever behold your perpetual beauty
As your poison slips me into a coma
But if you grace me with your aroma
I'll arise and unrelentingly do my duty
Of worshipping alongside Apollo
And solemnly swear to never let go

I loved the tone of this poem and the word choice that added to the great flow.
