The Accident

The Accident

A Poem by Jeffrey Gershom
"

A poem I just wrote after witnessing a bad traffic accident durning bad weather tonight. I only hope no one was seriously hurt.

"

The Accident

By J.M. Gershom

Motions of endless dance.

Freezing rain falls with

Playful danger while the

Glistening roads reflect

Headlights from numerous

Cars and trucks,

Trucks and cars,

Cars and more cars.

The traffic in the air,

Those drops, emotionless,

Yet full of potential pain,

Paints the busy streets with

transulcent pride.

Drivers with hurry in their

Hearts and minds

Pay no attention to

What may lurk on the

Slippery path to oblivion.

They sing with lust to

The songs on the radio.

They text their souls

To people just around

The corner, even the backseat.

They eat their greasy

Burgers with gluttonous

Adultery.

They do all these

Things but drive.

They never notice the

Red light, like

Many things in our

Imperfect lives we regret, until

It is too late.

They can’t stop reality with

“Oh s**t!” nor can they

Stop their car on the

Slippery path to destruction.

Freezing rain falls with

Playful danger while the

Slippery path mocks those

Who think they know

Better, those drivers

Those cars and trucks

Those trucks and cars

I just wrote this at one quick sitting. I'm sure it will need some refinements but it feels right.

This is really good. I love how you wrote a poem about something simple like driving and elaborated on it. To me thats something a true writer can do. nice piece :)

It feels right to me too. Well put together for one sitting. You bring up such good points in your observation.

They text their souls
To people just around
The corner, even the backseat.

These words are so true. People take things for granted and at their peril. I was at the scene of an accident while I was walking one day. The sound was awful. I couldn't stop shaking for 15 minutes. Everyone made out OK, but WOW!

Really good poem, revised or not.
