Talking to the Moon

Talking to the Moon

A Poem by Geralyn Miller

Full Moon,

hanging in the sky

like a paper lantern

illuminating the dark;

Glad you are here

to keep me company

as sleep eludes me.

Full Moon,

hanging in the sky,

you smile down so silently.

Unlike me.

I think too much

about the state of the world.

Countries struggling for democracy,

Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Syria.

Full Moon,

hanging in the sky,

here in the USA

politicans like brat children,

fingers in ears, chanting,

"La, la, la, I can't hear you!"

Full Moon.

hanging in the sky,

Times like this

the quandries of time and space;

the expanses of the Universe

are easier to understand

than the vagaries of power.

Full Moon,

hanging in the sky,

Do you find the powerful

as silly as I do?

I really like this poem; it shows the peace and serenity in nature against the turmoil of frivolous human want. I like how the repetition of the beginning of the stanza creates that aura of peace and calm, and then the changing part of the stanza creates the feeling of change and chaos.
