Power Junkies

Power Junkies

A Poem by Geralyn Miller

January begins,

time for a new batch of politicians.

They haven't even been sworn in,

and they are electioneering again;

no time to do their jobs,

they are running for office,

so afraid of losing power.

Power

is a drug;

and they are all addicts.

As enslaved by power

as any captive

of meth or heroin.

Like any addict,

they will do anything,

say anything,

promise anything,

to stay in power.

They sell our Nation

to the highest bidder,

like a crack w***e

selling her body

in a dingy back alley;

anything for their fix.

And the fools who vote for them

only enable their addiction.
