Past Glories

Past Glories

A Poem by Geralyn Miller

No longer can I climb to mountaintops,

until I kiss the sky.

Nor skim down cliffsides

on web strong ropes,

touch the Earth;

then climb, to fall anew.

Never again shall I soar through sky

like a bird with no wings,

until the parachute opens,

and I float gently down,

a summer snowflake.

Of all the things I cannot do,

Earthbound now,

by chair and crutch;

the most I miss the solitary hike;

alone with my dog, my pack and my thoughts.

In Nature's private heavens,

forest verdant and desert vast,

Mountains tall and canyons deep,

I have walked and loved them all.

Still at night,

I walk them in my dreams;

with my dog, my pack

and my thoughts.

Wonderful piece- I was wondering though, why can you no longer do these things? I would think about mentioning the reason and perhaps work on the rhythm a bit. Otherwise, excellent piece.

this is deeply moving~ for me in my mind's eye I see one who has been taken from the moving world by disability or age~ and yet within the mind's heart remembers every sensation of flying free~ beautiful~
